It is also known as linguistic prescriptivism and purism . An ardent promoter of prescriptivism is called a prescriptivist or, informally, a stickler. WebbWell, prescriptivism is not linguistics, just as manner books / you shall not" etiquettes are not ethnography. Of course it is important (!) to teach manners to children and the rules of interaction between people -- without such implicit rules shared by all of us society would not function -- but that's paedagogy, not science.
